Safety and Security on Campus
In an era when the issue of campus safety and security has become a constant concern, we understand that finding the right support for your facility isn't easy.  In cooperation with Gage Babcock and Associates, APPA is pleased to offer you the most current information on choosing a security consultant.

The Campus Public Safety Preparedness for Catastrophic Events study, sponsored jointly by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, The Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators, brought together universities affected by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, as well as schools that have faced other catastrophic events, to identify and understand lessons which can be applied across a wide range of hazards.

Designed as essentially open environments, college and university campuses present a specific set of security challenges.  This special report on Addressing the Challenge of Campus Security from the American Association of State Colleges and Universities reflects on potential vulnerabilities while offering suggestions and resources for increasing security preparedness.

The campus is a physical metaphor for the tone and atmosphere that provides a sense of security, safety, and control.  10 Steps to Creating a More Secure Campus from UniversityBusiness.com offers real-world action steps for achieving a safer and more secure-feeling campus.

Megatrends and Myths: Facilities Management Practices in Higher Education
In Megatrends and Myths from the November/December 2006 issue of Facilities Manager magazine, author William Daigneau examines major trends and forces shaping the future of facilities management , and exposes some widely held beliefs that he calls the "myths" of facilities management.

APPA's Trainers Network
Dedicated to the development of leadership and professional management within higher education facilities, MAPPA's Trainers Network pursues these goals through education, information, research, standards development, and other activities applicable to the planning, design, construction, maintenance, and operation of the facilities required for quality teaching, research, and public service.

In addition to their website and email discussion list, the MAPPA Trainers Network also hosts the yearly Big Ten + Friends Trainers Conference:
