Institute for Facilities Management: Energy and Utilities Core Area
The energy and utilities program of the Institute for Facilities Management is structured to give a comprehensive overview of all major utilities services for a school's physical infrastructure. Major topics include utilities distribution issues, electrical heating, chilled water, information systems, and water and sewer systems. The operation and management of central power plants is also covered, as well as environmental management, primary fuels, and energy management.

Study Shows School Cleanliness Affects Learning

A recent national study of college students determined there is a correlation between the cleanliness of a school’s facilities and students’ academic achievement. Entitled Cleanliness and Learning in Higher Education, the study was based around the five levels of clean identified in APPA’s Custodial Staffing Guidelines for Educational Facilities. More information.
