Institute for Facilities Management: Maintenance and Operations Core Area

The Operations and Maintenance area of the Institute for Facilities Management focuses on current methods and practices in delivering facilities maintenance and grounds care services. The core offerings provide an overview of management techniques, principles of building systems maintenance, grounds and custodial services, contracting issues, and plant renewal programs.

Study Shows School Cleanliness Affects Learning

A recent national study of college students determined there is a correlation between the cleanliness of a school’s facilities and students’ academic achievement. Entitled Cleanliness and Learning in Higher Education, the study was based around the five levels of clean identified in APPA’s Custodial Staffing Guidelines for Educational Facilities. More information.
