A Practical View of Codes & Standards for the Facility Manager
As Facilities Managers you are Responsible and Liable for the providing a facility that has the life safety features necessary to provide a safe environment for the occupants. – but much is open to interpretation. To start there are 3 key elements you need to know: 1) What is/was the timeframe which your facility was constructed? 2) What is your facility’s occupancy type, and 3) Who is the Authority Having Jurisdiction? There are subtleties in the answers to each of the foregoing questions.This session will address the importance of understanding building codes in educational settings, both in new construction and in existing facilities. Additionally, this course will discuss which codes apply, describe the role of the code official, and identify ways you can be involved with code advocacy.
1. Participants will discuss which codes and standards apply.
2. Participants will gain an understanding of the role of trade inspectors and code official.
3. Participants will learn how APPA members can be involved in code advocacy.
