APPA Webinar – Building Commissioning: A Risk Management Approach

What is Building Commissioning, and why is it valuable? Design and Construction Professionals have been increasingly exposed to Facilities Commissioning over the last 40 years, but there is room for increased awareness across the greater facilities management community, especially building operators. Initially, Commissioning was driven by a desire to improve design and construction quality and ensure the owner’s requirements were being met. In recent years, that emphasis has expanded due to sustainability efforts like LEED, high-performing building goals, codes, and standards focusing on facilities that operate correctly.

Facility Managers recognize the savings in valuable utilities spending and facilities technicians’ labor hours regularly resulting from commissioning. Operational efficiency does not end with commissioning during construction. Continuous metering and analysis of energy consumption after the commissioning baseline is essential to continuing operational efficiency.

This presentation is hosted by David Reynolds, Past President of TAPPA and former AVP Facilities at the University of North Texas. It will feature Director of Commissioning Matt Cale of Farnsworth Group. They will discuss the reasoning, processes, and benefits of building commissioning on new facilities, renovations, and targeted retro-commissioning opportunities.
