Institute For Facilities Management

APPA’s Institute for Facilities Management offers a deep dive into educational facilities management, and builds the competence, character, and leadership skills FM professionals needed to perform the complex and challenging roles they face every day.

The Institute is a program that comprises APPA’s four core areas of facilities management, each of which is considered a separate section of study, and must be completed to graduate from the course:

Part 1: General Administration
Part 2: Operations & Maintenance
Part 3: Energy & Utilities
Part 4: Planning, Design & Construction

Institute students select one core area at a time, which is their content focus for each three and one-half day program. Morning classes consist of required courses centering on the core area selected, while afternoon classes are electives chosen from a combination of any of the four core areas.

After each core section is completed, the student receives a certificate of completion from that core area, and is eligible to receive continuing education units (CEUs). To graduate from the Institute, the student must complete all four core areas, and will then be awarded a plaque recognizing their achievement.
