Why Recertify?
The facilities profession is constantly evolving. Recertification ensures you stay current with:
- Emerging trends and technological advancements.
- Best practices that reduce costs and improve operations.
- New knowledge that strengthens your leadership impact.
Your CEFP designation is more than letters after your name — it signals ongoing excellence, credibility, and a commitment to professional growth.
Requirements
- CEFP holders must earn 120 points within each four-year cycle.
- At least 40 points must come from the Education category.
- Points may also be earned through Employment, Leadership, and Research/Publication activities.
- The renewal fee is $350.
Example: If you earned your CEFP on May 12, 2020, your credential would expire on May 11, 2024.
How to Recertify
- Download the Recertification Spreadsheet – Record your activities across the required categories.
- Complete and Attest – Indicate your total points earned and confirm that the information provided is accurate.
- Upload to Member Compass and with your payment of the $350 renewal fee.
- Verification – APPA reserves the right to request substantiating documentation for any activities listed in your attestation.
Reminder emails will be sent, but it is the individual’s responsibility to track their expiration date and maintain current contact information.
Retired CEFP Holders

Retirees are not required to earn points.

To renew: Submit a letter on company letterhead (signed by HR or department chair) confirming your retirement date.

This must be done before your credential expires.

There is no fee for retiree renewal.
Failure to Recertify
If you do not renew before your expiration date:

Your CEFP will expire, and you must remove CEFP from your name.

Your name will be removed from APPA’s website listing.

You will need to purchase the CEFP Prep Course and Exam again to regain your credential.
