APPA Webinar – Part I: Viral Transmission in the Indoor Environment & the Impact of Cleaning; Part II: How to Validate Strategies that Reduce the Spread of COVID-19

Please join CIRI for a joint presentation from Karen Dannemiller, Ph.D., The Ohio State University and Dr. Richard Shaughnessy, Ph.D., Director of the Indoor Air Quality Research Program at the University of Tulsa. This webinar will address new and emerging research directly related to indoor viral transmission along with best practices for cleaning air and surfaces.

Part I: “Viral Transmission in the Indoor Environment and the Impact of Cleaning”
Presenter:
Dr. Karen Dannemiller, Assistant Professor College of Engineering, College of Public Health, The Ohio State University.

Learning Objectives:
1. What are the major sources of microbial exposure in the indoor environment?
2. How do viruses travel through the air and persist on different types of surfaces?
3. What is known about the efficiency of different cleaning techniques?
4. What strategies effectively reduce exposure to viruses during cleaning?

Part II: “How to Validate Strategies that Reduce the Spread of COVID-19”
Presented by Dr. Richard Shaughnessy, Director of the Indoor Air Quality Research Program at the University of Tulsa.

Learning Objectives:
1. The importance of cleaning for a healthy indoor environment.
2. How to evaluate and understand metrics to validate cleaning effectiveness.
3. The critical importance of a multi-pronged strategy to address the lowering risk of transmission, with a special emphasis on COVID control, including ventilation and air cleaning.
4. The significance of cleaning, distancing, masks, ventilation, filtration, air-cleaning devices, and risks related to resuspension — and how all of those elements are interrelated.
5. Why we need to include “balance” to a layered risk-reduction approach to SARS-CoV-2.
