Fall 2021: A Back-to-School Legal Checklist for Independent Schools

While the U.S. has made significant progress in its pandemic response, schools should not entirely abandon their COVID-19 policies and protocols for the upcoming school year. This session will review the pandemic-related legal issues that schools should consider as they develop their 2021 reopening plans. These include vaccine requirements, mask wearing and social distancing, and the legal parameters of measures a school can use if only a portion of the school’s community is vaccinated. We will also review common re-opening practices that may need a fresh look, such as reviewing and updating your employee handbook, employee onboarding and back-to-school training on issues such as discrimination, harassment, professionalism, and mandated reporting.

Learning Objective: Participants will learn to navigate the pandemic-related issues that their schools should consider as they develop their 2021 reopening plans.
