Solar-Plus-Storage: A Winning Combination for Your Campus to Achieve Climate Action Goals

Hear how the West Valley-Mission Community College District and SunPower worked together to install an integrated solar and storage project in the heart of California’s Silicon Valley. The renewable electricity is needed to power the campus’s 1MM sq.ft of buildings on 228 acres.

The 5.4 MWdc solar carport and 3MW/6MWh energy storage project is forecast to be completed in 2021. An existing 2.2 MW system, installed in 2011, has generated an estimated $860,000 in electricity savings per year for the District. Overall, the systems will allow the District to offset approximately 75% of its grid electricity use with clean energy and boost its annual savings to over $2 million. Located about 45 minutes south of San Francisco, the District enrolls about 15,000 students. The District will own its solar power system, with SunPower providing operations and maintenance, as well as a performance guarantee for 25 years.
