Surface Effects: Architectural Tile & Terrazzo and its Conservation

Surface Effects: Architectural Tile & Terrazzo and its Conservation scheduled for February 28-29th 2020. Jointly hosted by The Stuart Weitzman School of Design/University of Pennsylvania, the International Masonry Institute, and Association for Preservation Technology-Delaware Valley Chapter, the program will be worth 8 AIA LU.

The first day of the event will explore historic ceramic and glass tile, mosaic and terrazzo, with a focus on the performance, deterioration, repair, and conservation of these materials. These masonry materials have been used historically to serve both decorative and functional purposes. Because these materials often experience the most wear, maintenance and repair can be different from traditional preservation methods. The workshop, held at the Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Local 1 PA/DE Training Center, will focus on traditional installation methods and the current methods and materials used for addressing treatment repairs to tile and terrazzo surfaces. These interactive demonstrations will allow the participants to better understand these materials, properties, and proper installation techniques.
