About the Presentation (1 hour):    The goal of the sustainability movement is to allow us to meet our own needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs. It focuses on creating and maintaining balance between environment, equity, and economy. In construction, protecting the natural environment by choosing non-toxic materials, reducing and reusing resources, and minimizing waste is of the utmost importance. In roofing, there are numerous design and construction factors to be considered, including choosing the correct system for your building needs and region, detailing interfaces with other systems correctly, understanding lifespans of roofs and related systems, and making design decisions that extend the service life of the roof assembly. The presenter will also discuss how understanding the responsibilities of contractors and manufacturers in their respective warranty periods, as well as providing a robust evaluation and maintenance program, can assist in achieving a sustainable roof.

The Presenter:    Sherre L. Bartlett, AIA, CDT, Project Architect
