Webinar: Cli Fi, Sci Fi, and the Culture of Sustainability

Climate fiction, or cli-fi, is a form of literature that features a changed/changing climate or global warming as a major plot device. Join this webinar for an overview of this emerging genre and to address the question: How can fiction help to stimulate new thinking and conversations about our planetary predicament?

A broad overview will be provided of environmental, post apocalyptic, science fiction, and climate fiction, which are all swiftly changing as writers respond to the climate crisis and as climate impacts (fires, floods, storms, sea-level rise) become observable as plot, setting, character in our real lives. A curated book list of the most teachable novels that integrate science, economics, engineering, psychology, into humanities, communication, and storytelling to imagine a new future will be reviewed.

This free webinar will serve as the first session of the 2022 “Ultimate Cli-Fi Book Club for Sustainability in Higher Education“. This webinar and the book club is open to anyone in higher education in any disciplines and position types: faculty, counselors, student affairs, librarians, staff and administrators, etc.
