How to Successfully Leverage External Resources for Project Success

The team at the University of Washington Medical Center was building a new Center for Behavioral Health and Learning in Seattle when they realized that their available project management resources were not sufficient to get this very complex project over the finish line in time for the expected opening.

UWMC hired the Huron Consulting Group to supplement their existing PM resources.  This provided not only the extra hours needed to address key workstream needs, but also the expertise – for example, the opening of dining venues – which fell outside the UWMC team’s experience.

Over the course of 13 months, the team delivered a breadth of workstreams including policies, FF&E, education and training, staff and provider recruitment, risk assessment, a kitchen and dining operation to serve both patients and the UWMC community, building access, custodial coverage and a robust Go-Live support structure leveraging Smartsheet.

This session will help you to recognize the circumstances in which your organization’s existing time and talent may not align with what is needed and to consider options for filling the gap.
