APPA International Alliance Membership Setup
Account Setup Guide for HEFMA, TEFMA, and AUDE Institutional Members
As an institutional member of HEFMA, TEFMA, or AUDE — APPA's International Alliance Partners — you can create a free APPA account to access a range of complimentary Alliance Membership benefits, including the Inside APPA newsletter, Facilities Manager magazine, APPA-hosted webinars, and member pricing on events and professional development programs.
This guide walks you through the account creation process.
What You'll Need
- Your institutional email address
- Your institution's name
- Confirmation that your institution is an active member of HEFMA, TEFMA, or AUDE
Step 1: Go to the APPA Website and Create an Account
Visit www.appa.org and click "Join" in the top-right corner of the page.

A Membership & Account Access window will appear. Click "Create an Account" on the left side.

Important: Do not click "View Membership Information" on the right — that option is for paid institutional membership applications.
Step 2: Enter Your Login Information
On the Login Info screen, enter the following:
- Email — Use your institutional email address
- First Name and Last Name
- Password and Confirm Password — Your password must contain at least 8 characters, one uppercase letter, one number, and one special character
- Check the box to agree to the Terms & Conditions
- Click "Save and Continue →" to proceed
Step 3: Enter Your Key Information
On the Key Info screen, complete your profile details. The most important field on this screen is Organization.
- Organization — Begin typing the name of your institution in the Organization field.
- If your institution appears in the drop-down list:
- Select it. This means someone from your institution has already registered, and you can simply join under the existing organization.
- If your institution does NOT appear in the lookup:
- You are the first person from your institution to create an APPA account. Type your institution's full name followed by your association name in parentheses — for example,
Northwest University (HEFMA)— then press Enter. - This creates the organization in APPA's database and provides the necessary information to APPA's membership team to set up a complimentary account with Alliance Membership benefits.

After entering your organization and pressing Enter, a confirmation message will appear at the top of the screen: "Great! We have you connected to [Your Institution Name]." This confirms your organization has been linked to your account.

Complete the remaining fields:
- Name — Your first and last name will carry over from the previous step. Add a prefix, middle name, or suffix if desired.
- Email — Pre-filled from the previous step.
- Phone — Optional. Click "Allow International" to enter a non-US phone number.
- Billing Address — Enter your institutional address.
- Shipping Address — Click "Copy From Billing Address" if the same, or enter a separate address.
Click "Save and Continue →" to finish your application.
Step 4: Account Created - Awaiting Activation
Your APPA account has been created. Your account will not be immediately active — APPA's membership team processes new Alliance Membership requests during business hours on weekdays. You will receive a confirmation once your account has been activated.
Once activated, you can log in at www.appa.org and access your Alliance Membership benefits.

Education
- APPA Webinars — Complimentary access to 30–40 webinars per year on facilities management, leadership, sustainability, and technology
- Portable Professional Development Programs — Available at APPA member price when delivered within your institutional membership (travel cost of APPA instructors to international locations would be extra)
Events
- APPA Annual Conference (June/July) — One complimentary attendee per year per international partner, with hotel accommodation and one extra night for travel recovery
- APPAU — APPA's signature leadership and professional development programs (February and September) — One complimentary attendee per year per international partner, with hotel accommodation and one extra night for travel recovery
- AUDE, HEFMA, and TEFMA institutional members in good standing can attend any APPA event at APPA member price (travel and accommodation are the responsibility of the attendee)
