Investing in APPA’s Professional Development

Association Updates,

APPA’s professional development programs have long been a cornerstone of our mission to strengthen the skills of facilities professionals in educational institutions. These programs are in high demand, whether offered on a campus, hosted by a region or chapter, or delivered through APPAU events.

To continue offering the high-quality experiences that members expect, APPA recently completed a thorough analysis of program pricing. As a result, some updates are being introduced. In most cases the price remains flat, but in one case the price is increasing and one other case the price is being reduced.

Why the Change?

Sustaining Fresh, Relevant Content

Our programs are only as strong as the content they deliver. Regular investment is required to keep case studies, exercises, and resources timely, practical, and aligned with the challenges educational facilities professionals face today. APPA will be taking more intentional approach to keep the content relevant and fresh.

Covering Administrative and Operational Costs

Behind every successful workshop or academy session is significant behind-the-scenes work: coordinating facilitators, maintaining program content, supporting registration and communication, and ensuring smooth delivery. Updated pricing helps cover these ongoing costs, ensuring that APPA can continue to manage these details seamlessly.

Maintaining Standards, Intellectual Property, and Quality

APPA’s professional development is more than a training session—it’s a carefully curated learning experience. This requires:

  • Certifying and developing facilitators so they are fully prepared to deliver consistent, high-quality learning experiences.

  • Maintaining APPA’s trademarks and intellectual property licenses to protect the integrity of our programs.

  • Bringing facilitators together regularly to refresh and update content, ensuring it reflects best practices and new challenges in educational facilities management.

Ensuring Long-Term Accessibility

By realigning fees now, APPA reduces the risk of steeper adjustments later. Our goal is to keep professional development opportunities widely accessible to members while balancing the realities of delivery costs.

What Stays the Same

  • Value for Members: APPA programs remain competitively priced compared to similar professional development offerings.

  • Host Partnership Model: Institutions, regions, and chapters continue to have the flexibility to either use APPA-provided facilitators or host with their own facilitators at adjusted rates. More details here (refer to the other document).

  • Commitment to Excellence: Whether it’s Invest in Success, Supervisor’s Toolkit, or the Leadership Academy, participants will continue to benefit from engaging, high-quality, and applicable learning experiences.

Looking Ahead

APPA is committed to transparency and stewardship. These adjustments are not simply about covering costs—they are about ensuring that our professional development programs remain strong, sustainable, and impactful for years to come.

We thank our hosts and participants for their ongoing partnership in advancing professional development in educational facilities. Together, we continue to build the future of our profession.
