Professional Bio
Robert Semethy joined Erste Group Bank AG in 2008 as Chief Procurement Officer and Managing Director of Erste Group Procurement (EGP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Erste Group Bank AG, a leading financial institution in Central and Eastern Europe. Under his leadership, EGP has become a best-in-class supply management entity, managing over €1 billion in external spend across 60+ entities in eight countries. With a team of under 100 employees, EGP leverages sophisticated business intelligence, proactive category management, robust supplier relations, and a highly skilled, service-oriented workforce.
Before joining EGP, Mr. Semethy accumulated 20 years of experience in operations and supply chain management across various industries, including mining, heavy industry, electronics manufacturing services (EMS), and semiconductor capital equipment. His career has taken him to Austria, Hungary, Romania, Mexico, and the USA, where he held roles of increasing responsibility.
A native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Mr. Semethy earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh Swanson School of Engineering in 1989, where he also received four Varsity Letters in Men’s Swimming. He went on to earn a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Operations Management from the University of Pittsburgh Katz Graduate School of Business in 1991. He holds a US Patent (5,401,120) for a Pumpable Mine Seal and several professional certifications in accounting, audit, cybersecurity, engineering, HR, IT, procurement, project management, risk, and supply chain management.
Mr. Semethy currently resides in Budapest, Hungary, with his wife, Xenia, and their daughter, Yvonne.
