APPA Committees
How APPA's committees are structured, what each one does, and how members join.
How members join a committee
Most APPA committee seats are filled by regional selection rather than open application. Under the 2026 bylaws, each of the six APPA regions may select one representative to serve on the Business Partner Advisory, Professional Development Advisory, Awards & Recognition, and Nominating committees.
That means the route onto a committee usually runs through your regional board, not through a form on this website. If you are interested in serving, contact your region's leadership and tell them. Where a committee cannot reach its minimum size through regional selection, the committee chair may appoint additional members.
The Executive and Finance committees are made up of Board members only, so service there follows election to the Board.
Board committees
Comprised solely of current Board members and specified ex-officio members.
Executive Committee
Serves in an advisory capacity to the Board and may act on urgent matters between Board meetings. Leads the annual CEO evaluation, oversees CEO succession planning, sets Board meeting agendas, and coordinates crisis response. It cannot amend the bylaws, hire or terminate the CEO, approve the budget, or approve real estate transactions.
Finance Committee
Reviews and recommends the annual budget, monitors financial performance, oversees the annual independent audit, reviews the Form 990, and oversees investment performance against the Investment Policy.
Member engagement committees
Standing committees that include Board leadership and representatives from the broader membership.
Business Partner Advisory Committee
Your region may select a representativeProvides strategic guidance on Business Partner engagement, partnership and sponsorship opportunities, and the services that support Business Partner Members. Advises staff; does not decide programs, pricing or partnerships.
Professional Development Advisory Committee
Your region may select a representativeAssesses member needs, evaluates the effectiveness of existing programs, and advises on new professional development offerings and formats. Advises staff; does not decide program content, pricing or instructors.

Ad hoc committees
Formed to complete specific work and dissolved when that work is done.
Nominating Committee
Your region may select a representativeRuns the annual election cycle: develops position statements, issues the call for applications, interviews candidates, and presents a slate of two to four candidates per position for the membership to vote on. Forms in the autumn and dissolves after results are announced.
Awards & Recognition Committee
Your region may select a representativeMaintains the Association Award Policy, issues the annual call for nominations, evaluates nominees against published criteria, and selects award recipients. Runs one awards cycle at a time.
Bylaws Committee
Reviews the bylaws, researches governance practice, drafts amendments and presents them to the Board. Formed when a review or amendment is needed and dissolved on completion. A comprehensive review typically runs six to twelve months.
The Women in Facilities Affinity Group is a Board-established group rather than a committee. Participation is open to all APPA members, with no application process.
The CEFP Commission is an independent certifying body, not an APPA committee. Commissioners may not serve on the APPA Board or its committees while in office.
