How to Get Your CEFP

Step 1: Confirm Your Eligibility

You need 8 points to qualify—earned through a combination of education, work experience, and professional development.

Example: A bachelor's degree (4 points) plus 4 years of facilities experience qualifies you.

Points come from:

  • Years of facilities-related work (1 point per year)
  • Education level (Graduate degree = 6, Bachelor's = 4, Associate's = 2, HS Diploma = 1)
  • APPA Institute for Facilities Management tracks completed (1 point each)
  • APPA Leadership Academy tracks completed (1 point each)
  • Other certifications/licenses (1 point each, max 8)

Download Qualification Spreadsheet to calculate your points.

Not quite at 8 points? Each Institute for Facilities Management (IFM) track you complete earns 1 point toward eligibility—and builds your foundation in the Body of Knowledge.
