E-Scooter & Battery Safety

The popularity of micromobility devices has exploded, in some cases literally, on our campuses. As with many new technologies/emerging issues, we’re put in the position of having to deal with the related challenges before the laws and regulations can catch up. To help you with this process, this presentation will cover the hazards of Li-ion powered devices, a look at how campuses are responding, a discussion of the challenges ahead, and information regarding resources that are available to help.

Steve Knapp is currently a member of the NYAPPA board, serving as the ERAPPA liaison for the Professional Development Committee. Prior to joining SUNY Cortland's Planning, Design, and Construction office, Steve spent 20 years in the healthcare industry. During his time there, he dealt with two Li-ion battery fire incidents and saw firsthand the challenges these batteries can present.
