Addressing today's campus challenges requires more than just collecting data: it requires understanding and confidence in what action should be taken based on those insights.

Participants will learn how using a Building Management System to aggregate building, energy, and environmental data into actionable operational insights, from continuous monitoring of contaminants into direct strategies that can help improve health and comfort in learning, living, and research environments. In addition, there’s new guidelines from ASHRAE on better balancing energy efficient operation.

For critical environments such as research laboratories, centralized air quality monitoring and ventilation optimization can also help enhance laboratory safety for researchers while reducing energy consumption.

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this session, participants will be able to:

  1. Learn how a cloud-based Building Management System intelligence layer above individual buildings and campuses can aggregate real-time building, energy, and environmental data into a single source of truth and how to leverage that central data lake in a data visualization dashboard
  2. Understand how insights by continuous and comprehensive indoor air quality and contaminant monitoring, aligned with the latest ASHRAE guidance, can improve health and comfort in learning, living, and research environments while also enhancing energy- and operational efficiency
  3. Develop a practical approach for indoor air quality monitoring and ventilation optimization in critical environments such as research laboratories to enhance researcher safety, strengthen compliance, and reduce energy consumption

Presenters


Carl Bengtsson manages Smart Air Quality program at Siemens Smart Infrastructure, focusing on air quality management, continuous monitoring, HVAC optimization, and healthy building strategies. He helps facility teams develop data-driven approaches that support healthier indoor environments, occupant comfort, operational performance, and energy efficiency. He is active in ASHRAE standards and technical committees.


Sarah Grady is a Project Developer and Energy Engineer at Siemens Smart Infrastructure with more than 20 years of experience. She is a licensed PE and certified energy manager with a background combining HVAC design and energy conservation. In her current role she leads the team performing the technical audit, developing the scope of work, and determining savings.


Brandon Rose is a Digital Account Executive for Building X at Siemens Smart Infrastructure, where he works with higher education institutions on intelligent building technologies, energy optimization, fault detection, analytics, and sustainability initiatives. With more than 15 years of experience working alongside facilities, energy, and sustainability leaders, he helps colleges and universities use data-driven solutions to improve operational performance and campus outcomes.
