APPA Code of Professional Conduct
Adopted by the APPA Board of Directors, July 14, 2026
In brief
APPA's plain-language explanation. Not part of the adopted code.
It applies to everyone. Institutional Members and their representatives, Business Partners, and individual Student, Retired, and Emeritus members. Joining APPA is itself a commitment to uphold it.
Seven core standards: stewardship and service, professional excellence, integrity and honesty, respect and professionalism, institutional loyalty, safety and regulatory compliance, and environmental stewardship.
Do not overstate what you are. No false credentials or certifications, no using APPA membership to imply expertise you do not have, and no speaking for your institution or APPA without authorization.
APPA does not police your workplace. Conduct inside your own institution is governed by your employer's policies. This Code covers APPA activities, programs and meetings, dealings with APPA staff and members, use of APPA credentials, and service in APPA leadership.
Violations run through the Membership Policy, and can reach suspension or termination of membership. Consequences are proportionate to the violation.
You get due process. Notice of the allegation, a chance to respond, fair and objective review, and a right of appeal to the Board of Directors.
