John Blackwood IV is a dynamic facilities management leader who has built a career on keeping complex organizations running smoothly while creating safe, sustainable, and welcoming environments for the people they serve. With more than twenty years of experience across higher education, local government, the energy sector, and the U.S. Navy, John brings both technical expertise and a people-first leadership style to every role he takes on.
At the University of Maryland, John currently serves as Interim Director of Residential Facilities, guiding the operations of 49 residence halls, 21 fraternity and sorority houses, and several auxiliary buildings. He leads a dedicated team of professionals who keep the university’s living and learning spaces safe, efficient, and vibrant for thousands of students. Whether overseeing emergency maintenance, managing multimillion-dollar capital projects, or advancing sustainability initiatives, John is known for his steady leadership and collaborative approach.
